Hidden Side Effect with Probiotics

I'm regular Probiotics consumer.

Based on my research and experience,  certain probiotic strains caused me constipation when taking large quantities.  The constipation I faced is when I take Healthy Origin 30-billion 1 capsule daily.

That did not annoy me because I just changed my routines - taking it once or twice a week.

What was annoying experience is when I took Pylopass probiotic (from Life Extension's GastroEase).  I had to take it as part of killing Pylori bacteria which I was diagnosed last year.  Yes, I postponed it till the date that I learnt and experienced how serious that bacteria was. More on that in other posts.

I took Pylopass based on recommendations from the book, How I Beat H.pylori: One Woman's Journey.   The author took it before bed.

I took it daily before going to bed.  Every morning then I felt like I had vivid dreams and I felt like I did not have enough sleep.   That went on and on for 10 more days. My face looked dull and quite noticeable from lack of sound sleep.

Then I became to doubt that this might be due to pills I took at night (Mastic Gum and GastroEase). I stopping taking both for 3 days.  Then I took Mastic Gum for 3 days.  I began to have sound sleep. I took only GastroEase for 3 days.  I had vivid dreams and I found the culprit causing me lack of sound sleep. I tested this fact with my better half.   I asked her to take her California Gold Nutrition Probiotics at bed time instead of morning.   I did not tell her my experience of lack of sleep.   On three days,  she started complaining that she did not have enough sleep and had vivid weird dreams at night.

Now, I concluded that we should not take Probiotics at night time.  I now believe that each person reacts differently to each medication - we have no idea on what's happening in our body.  In this case of Probiotics, I know it because I experienced it.  There are lots of other reactions that I won't even know.  So when someone says some herb is good for you, it may be bad for you instead.

Be safe.
